I had been asking myself, what does this quotes means "He saw the
others in his group glance at him, embarrassed, and then avert their eyes
quickly. He saw a worried look on the face of his group leader." Does it
means that they thought that Jonas was in trouble, or would be released in
public? Did they thought that he had been taken over for being a disgrace for
the group and community? Or did they thought that he would be punished for
something he had made to the Chief Elder or to anyone of the community? Finally,
did they thought that maybe Jonas was going to be given a serious chastisement that
would change him forever?
After reading this four chapters I had started to think, is that the Receiver
is praised by people but at the same time people fear his job and look reluctantly
to be with him. Even the Elders are reluctant to be around him because he had
experiences that no one comprehend, and no one comprehend him. People also see
in awe to the Receiver as he always have the answer to everything, and is just
with everyone. However his apprentice, meaning Jonas, is seen with the respect
the Chief Elder is given and at the same time people start to become scared of
him as they think that he is already different from the community, in general. Finally,
the Receiver accepts this from an early age, and with time he or she starts to
accept that they are not a hundred percent a part of the community any more.
Hi Joaquin !
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time reading your blog because it made me question so much things that you pointed out. I like all the inferences that you made, because they make peoploe think and might changes perspectives of the book. In my case it really did, know I realize new things about the text. Great blog !
Thanks Camila!
DeleteI appreciate your comment. However I would like to know what you questioned about. And things in this text were merely cosise, so it was nothing to good in my opinion. However I appreciate you reading it carefully and I liked you liked my inferences. Give me your blog URL so I can see yours too.
Joaquin I think that you're blog show a good understanding on what is happening and is really good that you diffine sow well you're points and I agree with you in the point of the receiver and I found it pretty interesting.
ReplyDeleteNico:
DeleteThanks for your comment and I like to see that you agree with me, the same as Camila. However I would like to know a litle better what you really think about my post, for me your comment makes me ask what specific part of the Reciver comment you liked. Finally I would like to know what you think that are the reasons that the Reciver is so secluded from the other Elders
Thank you for your comment Nico!
Joaquin, I can agree with you when you say that The Receiver is a person that the community fear because in the book it says that everyone was surprised when they announced that he had been selected instead of assigned. Also, I think that having that job makes you be the most respected person of the community.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea!
DeleteI too like the part of the community fearing and respecting the Reciver. However I would like to know your opinion of the community and your perspective of how is the Reciver seen. Even if you agree with me you should have another insight too.
Thanks a lot for your comment, and comment again: Joaquin Yepez
Joaquin, why do you believe people are resultant to be round the Receiver of Memories? Also the book said that the receiver of memories is the most important job in the community. If that is so the Receiver of memories should be part of the community, being the glue that somehow holed it together. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteRafaela, I see the people relucant to be around the Reciver of Memories as he is the only one that had felt the true taste of life. He can take all their secrests, and people can never know when he is saying the truth. Even if it is the most important job, it is also the less loved one and no one want to have it. He don`t hold the community together, for he or she is an outsider and people try to avoid it, as the Elders are never sitted alongside him. However your comment made me think and I thank you for that.
DeleteKeep commenting, I appreciate it.
